Microsoft Buys Skype For 8.5 Billion – They Start Ruining It As Soon As FTC Okays Purchase
Rumors were abounding for the last few days but it turns out to be true: Microsoft will purchase, for cash, Skype and pay $8.5 BILLION for it. Sites like GigaOM confirmed the deal and the details.
The first thought I have about this is “They’ll ruin it as fast as possible. Where are people going to go?”
The answer has to be Google Talk.
The folks at Google must be having a MASSIVE party over this announcement. They could not have asked for a nicer thing to happen to Skype and Google Talk.
No word on when the sale will be final but I expect Steve Balmer to show up personally to start making changes to the Skype code to make sure it is screwed up to the high quality we expect of Microsoft.
