Jack Kirby’s family is trying to get back the rights to characters he created including the iconic character of CAPTAIN AMERICA and, with Stan Lee, characters like The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Hulk, The Silver Surfer and Thor.
Make no mistake about this part of the story: Marvel treated Jack Kirby, one of the greatest and most important artists in the entire history of comic books and graphic story telling, like shit.
He didn’t make much from the books he created and Marvel went out of their way for many, many years to keep him from making any more.
Jack Kirby was a god. Ask any real artist in the game past or present. He and Stan Lee were the Lennon & McCartney of the comics world. Their influence is felt every day in the field.
His family has been trying to recover the copyrights and Marvel and the licensees have been fighting back saying it was all ‘work for hire’.
They are now going to try and get the Supreme Court (I guess in between screwing the american public in favor or big corporations) to hear the case and I doubt they will.
It’s a crime how Jack was treated when he was alive and Marvel just needs to put an end to this since the majority of their BILLION DOLLAR movie empire are created directly from the pencils and pens of Jack Kirby.and the genius of Stan Lee (who IS making his money and payback for years of not).
