You Are Kidding, Right? AVENGERS Already Taking Pre-Orders For DVD Release

Holy Crap…  I couldn’t believe this. Right on amazon they are taking pre-orders for the number one movie at the box-office: The Avengers.

THIS is what is wrong with the film industry. A film that has been in the theaters less then a month is already being promoted for pre-order on DVD and Blu Ray.

HUH? So you don’t want anyone else to go to the theater to see the damn movie?

Already I have to hear numerous people I come across telling me that they don’t go to the theater because they know a film will be out on DVD in a couple of months. Don’t even dare tell them about the difference between seeing a film in a theater versus at home.

Thanks Movie Studios. Next time you hear a studio lementing about the poor ticket sales, about piracy or ANYTHING remember this. They are doing  it to themselves with stuff like this.

  • The key difference between seeing it at a theater and at home is that I'm comfortable at home. Theaters are only good if you're going with a group, or seeing something live. I go to the opera twice a year. The last time I went to the movies was for TDK (and that was to go with a group).

Honestly, they should just stop staggering the releases and try and turn the theater experience back into an experience. Home and theater releases on the same day. It's better business for the studios, it's better for the customers, and it'll force the theaters to compete on something other than their highly limited exclusivity.

  • I'm a believer in the theatrical experience. I think there is no better place to see a motion picture then in the theatre (with a good, well-maintained projection system and a clean and comfortable seat). A film like AVENGERS will suck in comparison on a television and standard sound system.

Yes, there are many films I don't think it matters. Many films that should just go straight to video and be done with it. Then again, there are many films that should never have gotten made let alone for the INSANE money that hollywood spends on productions these days.

I agree, the theatrical experience needs to be an experience again. I wish someone would do it.

  • Why pre-order? I'm sure every retailer will have 100s on display along with a big card board cut-out display. If I buy, I'll hold out for what store has the best freebie. 🙂

  • lol…you think this is bad…Prometheus is taking preorders and the damn movie isn't even out yet in the US.

If it's a movie I like I'll buy the disc as soon as I'm able to.

  • +K.B. Burnfield Avengers is not taking pre-orders…Amazon is. Yeah, I know what you meant, but the point's still the same. Stores will do it to videogames too; watch a store start taking pre-orders for Halo 4 tomorrow, even though the game's not even finished.
